CathoNav is a non-commercial site. We do not use advertising, tracking or analytics cookies, and we do not sell or share any data.

What happens when you visit

Our server keeps ordinary technical logs (IP address, time, page requested) for security, and deletes them after a short time. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which processes these technical data on our behalf.

Maps

Maps are drawn in your browser from map tiles loaded from OpenFreeMap. Your browser therefore contacts tiles.openfreemap.org, which sees your IP address. No cookies are set.

“Near me”

If you press “Near me” or “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission to share your location. The position is used only in your browser — to centre the map or to list the nearest dioceses — and is never sent to or stored by us.

The app and offline pages

So that the prayer pages open without a connection, your browser keeps copies of some pages, styles and pictures from this site on your device (a “service worker” cache). These stay on your device and can be removed by clearing the site’s data in your browser. The Angelus reminder remembers for the rest of your visit that you closed it, also only in your browser.

Who is my bishop?

When you choose a diocese, our server reads that diocese’s public page on Catholic-Hierarchy. Your browser does not contact Catholic-Hierarchy, and nothing about you is passed on.

Videos, news and links

The Sycamore trailer is loaded from Vimeo (with “do not track”), and the live streams on Pray live from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), only after you press play. News pictures are loaded from Vatican News. Links to other sites take you to services with their own privacy policies.
