What is Sycamore?

Faith in twenty minutes

Sycamore is an informal course about the Catholic faith. Each session begins with a film of about twenty minutes, followed by conversation. Groups meet in parishes, around kitchen tables or online, and nobody needs to know anything beforehand.

The course began in 2014 at Newman House, the Catholic chaplaincy for university students in central London, when a group of young people led by Fr Stephen Wang set out to make the faith accessible to their friends. The films were remade from 2018: the first ten were launched in June 2019 and the next ten in May 2020, when Sycamore became free to use. They are now used in parishes and schools all over the world.

The name comes from Zacchaeus, who climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus. When they met, his life was changed (Luke 19:1–10).
